Rockaway Community Health Plan - Workshop II

TIME: Thursday, December 8th, 5 PM- 7:30 PM (Rescheduled)
LOCATION: RISE Center, 58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd (B59th St)

Rockaway Waterfront Alliance (RWA) is hosting a collaborative process with local residents, community members and stakeholders at Rockaway Institute for a Sustainable Environment (RISE) to develop an action plan for improving the health and wellbeing of the Far Rockaway, Arverne and Edgemere communities. We invite community members to engage in this vital community planning process. Register below to rsvp for this community health planning workshop.

In 2014 the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, one of the nation's largest and oldest public health agencies, embarked on a multi-phased process aimed to mobilize communities to reach health improvement objective outlined in the Take Care New York 2020 Plan

Phase I identified priority issues in Far Rockaway, Arverne and Edgemere including unmet mental health needs, unmet medical needs, violence, baby-friendly hospitals, high school graduation rates, controlled high blood pressure, sugary drinks and smoking.

This Fall, RWA is leading the Phase II community engagement process with a diverse group of members and stakeholders to set the top healthy priorities and to develop a community health action plan.

The first workshop in this engagement process, participants established unmet mental health needs as the main priority for the Rockaway community, based on the fact that it seemed to be the one underlying issue that connected to all the health issues.

Join us on November 17th, to establish an action plan for addressing unmet mental health needs in the Rockaway community.

Healthy local food and refreshments will be served for participants. Advanced registration is recommended.

The Rockaway Community Health Action Plan/TCNY Planning Partner grants were made possible through the generous support of the Population Health Improvement Program, established by the New York State Department of Health.
