is focused on engaging the public on issues pertaining to environmental resilience, urban planning and sustainable development.
The RISE Center hosts the Resiliency Speaker series of educational lectures and workshops, free to the public, to help to support a community in which local residents can take part in planning and understanding the Rockaway shoreline in this age of global climate change.
Experts from around the globe have come to speak about efforts being made worldwide to reduce coastal flooding risks and create more resilient coastal communities. The workshops provide the Rockaway community with useful information on how to rebuild and protect the Rockaway peninsula from future storms and also offer a public forum in which to connect and discuss how our community can work together to put plans in action.
Past speakers include:
Jason Camhi, Surfrider Foundation
Crystal Dombrow, One Ocean Global
Karen Thomas, NYC Office of Emergency Management
Jon Klar, GrowNYC
Adam Parris, Science and Resiliency Institute at Jamaica Bay
Alina Campbell, the Clearwater
