RWA is on the RISE

In 2018, the RWA Board completed a strategic plan to pave the way for the next five years and continue to serve the local Rockaway community with enriching educational youth and community programs.

It has been two years, since officially opening the doors to our new headquarters, the RISE Center. Since moving all RWA programs to one site, our programs have exponentially grown.

Our youth programs are stronger than ever, and our community programs have expanded to include our CSA Farm Share, Cook & Chat workshops, exercise classes and events with community partners.

However in doing so, there has been confusion over what is Rockaway Waterfront Alliance and what is RISE?

So after completing our strategic plan, our Board agreed to rebrand all programs under RISE: Rockaway Initiative for Sustainability and Equity.

We feel our new name recognizes the work RWA has always done and will allow us to expand beyond our initial mission of environmental advocacy to include issues the Rockaway community has faced for decades, relating to environmental sustainability, social justice and equity.

The larger take away is that Rockaway Waterfront Alliance (RWA) is not going anywhere. We are still here, and our programs will remain unchanged.

We are excited to make this special announcement and hope our supporters will join us in the fall for our official launch celebration.

All our efforts over the past 14 years would not have been possible without the support of our many partners. We thank you all and look forward to continuing these efforts for many years to come!!
